Press releases journalists actually open.

Press releases, media pitches, awards submissions, thought leadership. Written for editors who get 200 pitches a day — not for buzzword-friendly internal stakeholders.

what's included

Every PR piece includes.

Press releases aren't hard. Ones that get picked up are. Here's what we do differently.

Newsworthy angle

We find the actual story in your announcement — the bit a journalist might care about. Often it's not what your CEO thinks.

Editor-style structure

Inverted pyramid, journalist-ready quotes, no marketing fluff. Just the facts in the order an editor expects.

Quote crafting

We draft quotes for your CEO / spokespeople in their voice — punchy, citeable, sound bite-worthy.

Media-ready boilerplate

Standard "About Us" boilerplate written once, reused across every release.

Pitch email companion

Every release comes with a short, editor-friendly pitch email — the bit that actually gets opened.

the long version

What we mean by press release & PR writing.

PR writing is the journalist-aware, editor-friendly writing that earns coverage — press releases, media pitches, op-eds, awards submissions, founder profiles. It’s a specialism because the audience is different: not your customer, but a journalist who gets 200 pitches a day and bins 195 of them in 30 seconds.

Done well, a press release lands placement in a relevant publication, a quote in a journalist’s feature, or a backlink from a high-authority site. Done badly, it’s the “FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE” sitting in a draft folder forever.

At Sage Writers we write the PR copy. Distribution is something we partner with PR agencies on — but the writing is what we’re hired for. Our editor Esme’s editorial background means she knows which pitches editors open and which they don’t.

PR FAQ.

Do you distribute the release to journalists?

We write the copy and the pitch email. Distribution (i.e. emailing journalists / using PR Newswire / pitching to specific outlets) is a separate service we partner with PR agencies on. We can recommend partners.

What if my announcement isn't very newsworthy?

We’ll tell you. Honestly. Sometimes the answer is “this isn’t a press release, it’s a blog post” — and that’s fine. We won’t write you a release that’ll get binned.

Can you write under embargo?

Yes — we handle embargoed releases regularly. NDA-friendly process. We don’t talk about client launches before they go live.

How fast can you turn a release around?

Standard is 5 working days. Rush option is 24–48 hours (+20% surcharge). For genuine breaking news, we’ve done same-day before.

Do you ghostwrite op-eds?

All the time. Thought-leadership op-eds in your CEO’s voice, placed via your own PR partner or ours. Add £300–600 to a standard release for a thought-leadership companion piece.
