My story

Ten years in editorial, four years freelance, one agency.

Sage Writers is a freelance copywriting agency in Birmingham, run by Bijal Shah. Writing for a living since 2013, first as an in-house editor for a UK lifestyle publisher, then as a senior copywriter inside an agency. Freelance since 2022, working with UK SMEs across B2B SaaS, ecommerce, professional services and the more thoughtful end of consumer brands.

The way I work is deliberate. AI + human, together. AI is used for what it is genuinely good at, brainstorming, research, source summarising, first-pass structure and idea generation. Human judgment does everything that actually earns the click, strategy, SEO planning, tone calibration, editing and proofreading. That amalgamation lets me ship copy faster than a traditional agency without losing the craft you are paying for.

Every project runs through five lenses at once, SEO, creativity, marketing, business strategy, and the reader who will actually see the page. Because good copy is never one of those things alone.

Keyword research, search intent, headings, meta, internal linking. Baked into the copy from the outline stage, not bolted on at the end.

A distinct voice, a fresh angle, a hook that earns the scroll. Copy that reads like a person wrote it, because a person did the final draft.

Funnel awareness, buyer psychology, message-to-market fit. The right words to the right reader at the right stage of the journey.

Understanding your buyer, your sale, your margins, your operation. The copy has to make commercial sense, not just linguistic sense.
