Terms & Conditions.

The plain-English rules that govern using this site and engaging us for copywriting work. Designed to be fair to both sides.

1. About us

This website (sagewriters.co.uk) is operated by Sage Writers Ltd, a UK company registered in England & Wales, with its principal office in Birmingham. Contact: hello@sagewriters.co.uk. References to "we", "us" or "Sage" mean Sage Writers Ltd. References to "you" mean the visitor or client.

2. Using this site

You may use this website for lawful purposes and personal/business information only. You agree not to:

  • Use the site in any way that is unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful to others;
  • Scrape, copy or republish substantial portions of our content without permission;
  • Attempt to interfere with the security or operation of the site.

3. Our services

We provide UK copywriting and content services, including website copy, blog writing, articles, product descriptions, social media copy, guest posts and PR writing. The specific scope of any engagement is set out in a separate written brief or quotation, which becomes part of these terms when you accept it (by email reply, signed document, or paying our deposit invoice).

4. Quotes & pricing

Quotes are valid for 30 days from issue. Prices are quoted in pounds sterling (GBP) and exclude VAT (we are not VAT-registered unless stated). Project fees are based on the scope agreed at the time of quoting; significant scope changes may require a new quote.

5. Payment

  • Deposit: 50% on project kick-off (or 100% in advance for projects under £500).
  • Balance: payable within 14 days of final delivery, by bank transfer.
  • Retainers: invoiced monthly in advance.
  • Late payment: we reserve the right to charge interest at the statutory rate (currently 8% above the Bank of England base rate) on invoices unpaid 30 days after the due date, in line with the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.

6. Revisions & sign-off

Each project includes two rounds of revisions within the original scope. Additional revisions, or changes outside the agreed brief, will be quoted separately. We'll treat a project as "signed off" once you confirm by email — or 14 days after final delivery if we hear nothing.

7. Intellectual property

Once you've paid the full project fee, the copy we deliver becomes your property. You can use it, modify it, and publish it as you see fit. We retain the right to:

  • Reference the project in our portfolio (with your prior approval for confidential work);
  • Reuse general writing techniques, processes, and methodologies (the "craft", not the words).

Until the balance is paid, the copyright in the deliverables remains with us.

8. Cancellation & refunds

  • Before work begins: full refund of any deposit minus reasonable admin costs (typically £50).
  • After work begins: deposit is non-refundable; we'll deliver whatever has been completed at the point of cancellation.
  • Retainers: 30 days' written notice to cancel.

9. Confidentiality

We treat anything you share with us in the course of a project as confidential, indefinitely. We expect the same in return for any of our processes, templates or unreleased work you encounter.

10. Liability

We'll always take reasonable care to deliver work that's accurate and on-brief. However, we can't be held liable for indirect, consequential, or commercial losses arising from how you choose to use our copy — for example, claims about how a product performs, marketing-campaign results, or third-party legal action arising from your published material.

Our maximum liability for any project is capped at the amount you paid us for that project. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death, personal injury, or fraud, where the law does not allow it.

11. Force majeure

Neither party is liable for delays or failures caused by circumstances outside reasonable control — power outages, illness, industrial action, internet outages, that sort of thing. We'll let you know as soon as it's clear a deadline is at risk.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms occasionally. The most recent version always applies to new engagements. Active projects continue under the terms in force when they began.

14. Get in touch

Questions about anything in here? Email hello@sagewriters.co.uk — we're happy to clarify in normal English before you sign anything.
