Who we are
This site is operated by Sage Writers Ltd, a UK copywriting agency based in Birmingham, registered in England & Wales. You can reach us at hello@sagewriters.co.uk.
We are the data controller for any personal data you provide through this website.
What data we collect
We only collect data you give us directly, and a small amount the web technology provides automatically:
- Contact-form submissions — your name, email, company, website, and the brief you send us.
- Newsletter signups — your email address only.
- Site analytics — anonymised page-view data via our analytics provider (no personal identifiers).
- Server logs — your IP address, browser type, and the page you visited, retained for 30 days for security purposes.
We do not collect sensitive personal data, payment card details (those go through our invoicing provider), or location data beyond your country.
Why we collect it (lawful basis)
- To reply to your enquiry — necessary to take steps before entering a contract with you.
- To send our newsletter — only with your explicit consent, which you give by submitting the signup form.
- To improve the site — our legitimate interest in understanding what people read.
- To comply with legal obligations — for example, retaining invoices for HMRC purposes.
How long we keep it
- Enquiry data: 24 months after our last contact with you. We then delete it unless you've become a client.
- Client data: kept for 7 years after our last project together, as required by UK tax law for business records.
- Newsletter data: kept until you unsubscribe (one click in any email).
- Server logs: 30 days.
Who we share it with
We share your data only with third parties who help us run the business:
- Mailchimp (newsletter delivery) — based in the US, with EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Our email provider (Google Workspace) — based in the US, with appropriate safeguards.
- Our hosting provider — UK or EU servers.
We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or pass it to anyone you wouldn't expect.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Ask what data we hold about you (a "subject access request")
- Ask us to correct it if it's wrong
- Ask us to delete it (we'll comply unless we have a legal reason to keep it)
- Ask us to stop using it for marketing
- Object to our processing of it
- Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you're unhappy with how we've handled your data

Cookies
We use a small number of cookies. None of them track you across other websites.
- Essential cookies — required for the site to function (e.g. remembering you've closed a banner).
- Analytics cookies — only if you consent, anonymised and aggregated.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work; some analytics won't be collected.
Children
Our services are aimed at businesses. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe we have, please contact us and we'll delete it immediately.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and change the "last updated" date at the top. Material changes will also be announced in our newsletter.
